The parents of the victim in the RG Kar Hospital rape and murder case in Kolkata met with RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday, seeking justice for their daughter. Bhagwat, who is currently on a ten-day visit to West Bengal, assured the grieving parents that he would ensure justice was served.
Speaking to ANI after the meeting, the victim’s father shared, “We met him at 11 am and had a half-hour discussion. He said he was aware of the case but had not fully grasped the extent of the situation. He promised to look into it and assured us that we would get justice. We provided him with a letter detailing our suspicions and naming those involved. We trust him and will not stop appealing for justice.”
The tragic case revolves around the rape and murder of a trainee doctor, whose body was discovered on August 9, 2024, in a seminar room at RG Kar Hospital. On January 30, the victim’s parents also met West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose, asking him to escalate their concerns to President Droupadi Murmu and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The West Bengal Raj Bhavan Media Cell shared on X, “On January 30, 2025, the parents of the RG Kar victim met with HG and presented their grievances, pleading for justice. They requested HG to bring their case to the attention of the President of India and the Union Home Minister, to whom they had already submitted representations. HG assured them of his support and expressed that humanity stands with them. Justice will prevail.”
On January 20, a Sealdah Civil and Criminal Court convicted Sanjoy Roy for the rape and murder of the RG Kar victim, sentencing him to life imprisonment. The court’s ruling has sparked an outcry, particularly among doctors and medical professionals, who are calling for Roy to be given the death penalty for his horrific crime. There are also growing calls for a reinvestigation into the case, with concerns raised about the handling of the initial investigation.
